It has been such a long time since I last posted, and not without several drafted Google docs and blog post ideas typed frantically into my notes. I’m back with something fun. My passion for set design showed it’s roots consistently throughout my Sims 4 gameplay over the years. I decided to collect the best of my Sims 4 photoshoots not only to boast as if I’m showing you a family album (which I guess I literally am), but because I figured that regardless of the medium, this could absolutely go into my portfolio. Anyway, enjoy. I hope to be back soon with a few things that I have planned.

I’ve never really watched their story unfold in succession like this, but I have been playing on and off with them for four years! They now have two teenage daughters, so I’m thinking… Christmas photos next?

This shoot was a warm and refreshing take on engagement shoots. In a world where neutrals are taking over, dozens of red tulips lifted the mood.

An elevated aisle lined with fresh flowers, creating a winding road for the audience to see the pair in a variety of angles. An intimate setting in a garden with simple teak seating and the sound of a waterfall blending with live music. I was truly so obsessed with making this. The only thing is a wish that the walkway had more rounded edges.

Simple and clean (shout out to Hikaru Utada). I adore the trend of two settings sharing a space: the traditional background within the environment of another background. I saw it most recently in Namjoon’s Vogue Korea cover.

Post-post wedding shoot. I clearly could not get enough of designing sets for them. This set was inspired in part by the “fruity” makeup look. I imaged the pair of them being the flowers peeking out of a bush.

Scouting nice shooting locations among worlds is a third of the fun. Windenburg was my favorite world for a while. I’m guessing because it was so clearly based on Europe, and so much of the setting reminds me of my study abroad experience. The mirror allowing for two perspectives was inspired by Solange when she was in Lake Como.
Wow I am really watching their love story as I make this blog post. This is really something.

I love hosting, in both reality and in the sims. This go around, I created a door-less hall of mirrors for my guests to take pictures at the Halloween party. These weren’t even all of the guests that I shot with, these were just my favorites. Whenever I throw a party, there has to be a theme. My mind went Halloween –> hall of mirrors instantly. I think that I can get carried away with lighting, but for this I’m really proud of it, and it boosts the mood.

Inspired by the experience of walking through the galleries of a museum. I lined the background with flowers because the edge seemed a bit too harsh. The Spring Day and Euphoria color palette feels so satisfying with the golden hour lighting.
I really enjoy the color story of this engagement shoot. The green and baby blues makes the white really pop. I will go ahead and say that I did design this set before anyone asked anyone for their hand in marriage… and when I actually did it… he rejected her… But at least we have the memories! I didn’t make a mood board for this one. I kind of went with the flow here.

Perfume ad? Something like that. I genuinely forgot that I created this until I went through all of my sims screenshots. I had the Sims Castaway on my wii, and for a while it was really hard to get the hang of it (I’m sure the wii did not make it easier at all), but one day I came back to it and I played it for days and days. I really enjoyed the overcast that led to the dusty blue lighting, and in a way made a more intimate setting.
Inspired by the grunge and youth of the 1990’s (or at least the perspective of the ’90s from 20+ years on) is a fun maternity shoot. I wanted a childhood bedroom aesthetic. It started with the burgundy carpet, which I had in my childhood home for most of my life, and I built it up from that. This was another one where I did not have a mood board but rather a feeling and I just kept adjusting throughout the process until it felt right.

I thought about Lake Como, Rome, Tuscany, other Italian places… A stripped back shoot within centuries of history. Perfect to be shot in Oasis Springs as well (which surprisingly is one of my favorites worlds? There is just something about it that the other worlds don’t give…). I would love this shoot to be in black and white. It’s also kind of funny because I was watching the new Kardashians episode, and the amount of times that they mentioned the word Italy….
Thanks for taking the journey with me. I truly enjoy designing world for a photoshoot. I can be the creative director and squeeze my ideas into the lives of my sims who have no idea that I am doing the absolute most :).
See you soon (seriously),
K
