“Wish”, Creative Director Fashion Show Concept

I have these bursts of time where I listen to “Wish” by Rayvn Lenae on repeat, and overtime I created a set design concept and look moodboard for a fashion show based on the song.

By reading past this line, you are acknowledging that the ideas below are mine. This is a space to share and collaborate, not to steal concepts. Thank you.

I am always taken aback by theatrical runway shows. They don’t happen as much anymore, but I see them here and there, so fingers-crossed they are making a comeback. A fashion show as a performance gives the electric air of a Broadway show– one chance to give it your all.

Here is the summarizing concept: Sneaking out of the house under the silver moon to spend time next to a cherry blossom tree with a lover. Youthfulness & sleepiness & innocence. The clothes are romantic and personal. Models have hair rollers in their hair or a sleep mask on their forehead. Most wear coats, heaviness intimately clashes with the delicate clothes underneath. Shoes are slippers, those lil kitten heels, or clunky boots that match more with the coat to imply the whirlwind romance and spontaneity of sneaking out. Live orchestra (mainly violins) that play a slower version of “Wish”, and abrupt snores that dramatically halt the model from walking for a few seconds as to not wake up the parents still in the house.

It will start with the first model in their room on the second floor with a daydreaming stare. Then they get a call and creep out of the house through the front door, across the runway, and into the garden maze lined with tall manicured shrubbery. Each model thereafter also tip toes out of the front door.

The last model, in the grand finale flowing gown, at the crescendo of the orchestra, walks down the runway until the midpoint where she pauses and waves towards the garden. Then she grabs the front of the gown and begins to run into the garden. The shrubs mechanically shift out to offer the audience a larger view of the night sky. The full moon shrinks and the backlit silhouette of the last model meeting their lover under a cherry blossom tree is shown behind a thin screen.

The goal is for it to feel romantic and comedic and whimsical. Maybe one day I can make it come true! Let me know what you think of this concept, and I’ll talk to you later.
