I had a dream that me and a bunch of women were singing with Chloe and Halle and purple glitter was falling from the ceiling and it felt like I could cry and I realized…. my electric guitar not by my side.
By reading past this line, you are acknowledging that the ideas below are mine. This is a space to share and collaborate, not to steal concepts. Thank you.
I’ll come out and say it. I want to be a lead singer in a rock cover band. I am beyond serious. It’s tentatively called “ROYL” which is an acronym for “Rest Of Your Life“, a song by Chloe and Halle. They did a live rock version of this song that blew me away when they went on their amazing 2020 performance press tour.
I have this cover band fully built out in my mind (& my Pinterest). It will all be on a set that is designed to look like it’s located in a garage, and each song that is recorded and filmed will have it’s own theme and unique set within the “garage”. I imagine that with each video release, the set will get a higher budget, but still have that relatable, fishing rods hanging on the wall feel. First is “Where U Are” by Rina Sawayama, which is a cover itself of “I Wanna Be Where You Are” by Michael Jackson. Here’s what I’m thinking for the set and the costuming:

It all started with a vine-y swing and the main villain from A Cinderella Story. Both of those random ideas came together to make a key that unlocked an entire theme to the band’s debut song and video.
I want it dark with a glowy spotlight and coated in veiny water reflection. There is a soft, slightly smokey, fallen angel aesthetic, and the swing slowly moves back and forth throughout the song.

It’s not in this draft sketch, but I think I want there to be more greenery in the background, something like tall bushes, almost like the audience stumbled across them in a garden maze. The water below is blue and silky. The lead singer eventually stands in and finally rests in it.
The costuming is white and lightweight: linen, cotton, satin, crochet. All jewelry is silver like the moon and kisses their shimmering skin. The lead has huge, “life size” white feathers wings and is barefoot. It’s almost snow princess vibes, but melted down and set in a lush ethereal nature space.

It will set the stage for a long series of rock covers— some we love, some we miss, some never knew that we needed it in a rock version (like this song). I have so many ideas in store for so many songs. Thanks for reading and watching.
I’ll talk to you soon,
K
